Top Places to Use Turnstiles

Shuretech • 23 August 2022

Turnstiles are a useful method of managing the flow of crowds and ensuring identification when needed. They’re used in so many different applications, you may not be sure they’re the right fit for your business. However, turnstiles are used more often than you might think. Here are some of the more popular places to find them.

Crowd Control

The turnstiles used for crowd control generally work to enforce a one-direction flow through specific turnstiles, so you can manage where people are walking. Often, these turnstiles are set up to count how many people got through each day and these numbers are checked and tracked over time.

You’ll find crowd control turnstiles in many places, including:

Schools: This slows and manages the students, as well as counts how many arrived.

Canteens: You may wish to prevent huge numbers of people from entering an employee or school canteen at once.

Supermarkets: Many stores use turnstiles to enforce the directional entrance or exit, to count, and also to help slow people down if security needs to talk to them.

Shopping Centres: Again, knowing how many people are coming and going can be helpful.

Lobbies: Entering a hotel or other type of lobby can be better handled if people are filtered in with a little more care.

There are many other areas where crowd control turnstiles come in useful, as well.

Identification or Ticket Barriers

These turnstiles are configured to ensure people can only pass through if they have the right ID or payment. These must be recognised by the turnstile so it will unlock and allow the person through.

You’ll find these types of turnstiles at:

Theme Parks: Without paying at the theme park, you won’t be able to get through the turnstile, which ensures non-paying guests can’t sneak in.

Factories: At a factory, you need to be sure every employee is accounted for, which is why these scanning turnstiles are frequently used here.

Warehouses: Like factories, warehouses tend to keep track of their employees and using turnstiles can work well for this purpose.

Military Installations: The military has even more reason to stay on top of who is coming and going and turnstiles are a good way to track that.

Legal Buildings: Of course, it’s best to limit who can come and go in certain buildings, so a barrier to simply entering as you wish is a good idea and turnstiles work well.

In short, turnstiles are a very useful part of everyday life. As an ever-popular safety and security measure, they could help you with your business, too. Contact Shuretech to learn more about our turnstile options.
